Connect Meilisearch

Meilisearch is an open-source search engine you can host yourself or use through Meilisearch Cloud. It supports typo tolerance, facets and tenant tokens for per-user access control.

Before you start

You need a running Meilisearch instance and two keys:

• a search key that's safe to use in visitors' browsers
• an admin (or master) key the plugin uses for indexing

Connect

1. Go to Settings → Tangible SearchSync → Connection Setup.

2. Under Search Backend, set Backend to Meilisearch.

3. Under Meilisearch Details, fill in:

   Field	Value
   Meilisearch Host	The address your server uses to reach Meilisearch, for example http://127.0.0.1:7700
   Meilisearch Search Key	The search-only key, used in the browser
   Meilisearch Public Host	Optional. Only needed when visitors' browsers must use a different address from the server
   Meilisearch Admin Key	The master or admin key used for indexing. It stays on the server

4. Click Save Settings.

When do I need a Public Host?

Mostly in container setups. If WordPress reaches Meilisearch at an internal address such as http://host.docker.internal:7700, visitors can't use that address, so set Meilisearch Public Host to the address they can reach.

Things to know

• Sorting on Meilisearch uses a sort suffix on the index name, such as post_date:desc. SearchSync adds the field to Meilisearch's sortable attributes the next time it pushes index settings. See Filter widgets.
• Staging sites: when SearchSync detects a staging environment it pauses the API connection. See Staging mode.
