Reindexing and index status

Automatic sync​

Once an index is filled, SearchSync keeps it up to date as you work:

  • Publishing or updating a post sends its record to the index.
  • Unpublishing or trashing a post removes its record.
  • Editing a term updates the posts in that term.

Automatic sync is paused while staging mode is on.

Reindex​

Reindex when you've changed an index's settings or attributes, or when you want to rebuild it from scratch.

  1. Go to SearchSync → Index Settings.
  2. On the Index Status tab, click Reindex on a row. To rebuild several at once, tick them and click Reindex Selected, or click Reindex All.

You can also reindex straight after saving an index, from the Re-index now button in the save notice.

warning

A reindex empties the index and then refills it in batches of 100 posts. Searches on that index return partial results until it finishes, and if it fails partway, the index is left partly filled. Reindex busy sites at a quiet time.

Index status​

The Index Status tab lists every index with its Index Label, Index Name, Indexed Content, Index Language and Last Reindex time. Use the filters above the table to narrow the list by date, content or language, or search it by name.

From the command line​

With WP-CLI you can reindex everything, or one index:

wp searchsync reindex
wp searchsync reindex --index=courses_index
