Staging mode

When you copy a live site to staging, the copy keeps the same search credentials. Without a safeguard, every post you edit on staging would overwrite records in your live index, and your live search results would start showing staging content.

Staging mode stops that. While it's on, SearchSync doesn't write to the search backend at all: publishing, updating and reindexing all leave the index untouched.

Turn it on or off​

  1. Go to Settings → Tangible SearchSync → Connection Setup.
  2. Under Staging Mode, switch Staging Mode on or off.
  3. Click Save Settings.

Automatic detection​

If SearchSync recognises the site as a staging environment, it turns the API connection off for you and shows a notice:

This looks like a staging site. For safety, the plugin's API connection has been disabled.

If you do want this copy to write to the index, for example because it has its own separate search application, click Enable API anyway.

Staging mode applies to Algolia and Meilisearch. The Local backend writes only to the site's own database, so a staging copy can't affect your live index.
